Review: The Queen of the Tearling by Erika Johansen

This book was a disappointment in truth. The premise was good, but it failed in execution and characterisation. One of the main reasons for this is that it tried to balance on the line between YA and adult dystopian/fantasy fiction, which ended up making certain components fail to have their desired effect. It didn't help that Kelsea was annoying and unlikeable; not ideal for the main character. If I find the sequel in the library, I'll pick it up, but I won't be purchasing it nor will I go searching for it.

Review: Death Note Black Edition Vol. 1 by Tsugumi Ohba

My last attempt at reading manga failed miserably and I felt like never trying it again, but I'm glad I didn't do that. Death Note is fast-paced and interesting with lots of plot points that really make you think. I'm looking forward to continuing with the rest of the series and hopefully they will be just as good.

Review: Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo

I loved The Grisha Trilogy, but the love I feel for those books cannot be compared to the adoration that I feel for 'Six of Crows'. The storyline continues to be fast-paced and exciting from beginning to end; you never want to put it down. The character development in this novel is amazingly accurate to real life and the characters themselves you can't help but love; the sass from Nina was especially refreshing.  I cannot wait for the next instalment and though this is only the first month of 2016, I feel that this book will definitely be one of my favourites of the year.

Review: Snow Like Ashes by Sara Raasch

I resisted buying this book when it first came out because I am always a little wary when there is a hype around a new book. I was right to be wary as for the first part of the book, I did not enjoy the narration, and by that I mean that I found Meira annoying. Also, a few parts of the plot were a bit predictable. However, the world-building made this book a lot better and I got into the book more towards the end. I will be continuing with this series, though I hope there is an improvement.
